Tattoos are now recognized as a true art form, and as such follows different aesthetic and stylistic canons, depending on the tattoo artist's hand and the kind of tattoo you want done. There are many different styles; tribal tattoo, Old School tattoo, from those of the Japanese mold and Thai. Some have the characteristic of being figurative tattoos. But what does it mean? And what are figurative tattoos?
Figurative art differs completely from abstract, unlike the latter, is recognizable objects from the real world. Sometimes the subjects are represented in an absolutely exact copy to reality (mimesis), in other cases in a distorted way, but always recognizable.
Like all art forms which are based on the figure (hence the name figurative art), the tattoo art that practice drawings from reality is defined as figurative art form, or figurative style.
THE STYLE OF THE TATTOO FIGURATIVE
The figurative tattoos, which made "figurative style" for example belong to the Old School style, representing images from the real world with all the
connotations that depict realistic, and it does, giving these subjects (eg anchors, ships, swallows ...) great symbolic significance (the anchor, for example, means strength and security, the swallow is a symbol of wisdom and knowledge, etc.).
The same is true of the New School tattoo, a tattoo style that differs from Old School to be its modern interpretation, which exacerbates its characteristics through the use of bright colors and thick lines. Then we find the specific figurative realistic tattoos, or designs that are a copy of the real, therefore extremely figurative; the technique used for the realization of these tattoos provides for the complete elimination of the contour lines, replaced by a rich processing of color shades, to guarantee the creation of a subject highly like that of the real copy. Belong to the latter category, for example, portraits of people, animals or objects made with incredible precision, making a close representation of a photograph. Finally, part of the figurative tattoo even some Japanese tattoos, whose style derives from visual arts and provides a massive use of vibrant colors, shades and overlapping of subjects.
